ABOUT ME

Who am I?

I’m a journalist, a public speaker, and the author of your next favourite book — My Fighting Family: Borders and Bloodlines and The Battles that Made Us.

To the extent that people know me its from my 18-year run at the Toronto Star, where I covered everything from crime to soccer to baseball, but made my reputation writing about the space where sports and social issues overlap. Since the end of 2019 I’ve been a one-man media corporation, working as a senior contributor for CBC Sports, while racking up by-lines at places like the New York Times, the Globe & Mail, the West End Phoenix and 3 Magazine.

On-air work?

I do that, too. Back in the day, back at the Star, I hosted and produced the Sportonomics series, and most recently I hosted Bring It In With Morgan Campbell on CBC Gem. Currently you can find me on ESPN+, in the broadcast booth at boxing events from Montreal.

Awards?

I have some of those —  most notably a National Newspaper Award in 2003, and an AIPS Sport Media Award in 2022.

And I also have a book, which I love to discuss with anybody even halfway interested, and which I’m always actively promoting.

Point is, I’m happy you discovered my blog, and I hope you find your way back. But hope isn’t enough, so I invite you to subscribe so you don’t miss any updates. And if you’re an editor, book store owner, librarian, book club or educator interested in working with me… send me an email (MorganCampbellWrites@gmail.com) and let’s talk.

Just read … In current media environment, retired NHL star P.K. Subban’s conservative pivot a savvy business move.

Spot on. I say that with much worse than a heavy heart. He was a hero to me and my daughters playing with nos Canadiens. So much so that we reflectively hated his haters. Until now.

Subban now stands as a key corner to Canada’s Quisling Quartet … with Wayne Gretzky, Bobby Orr and Mario Lemieux … A rogues gallery of hockey heroes.
