Interested in buying my book? You must be, since you came to this page. But if you’re still just curious, I’ll summarize it for you:
My Fighting Family: Borders and Bloodlines and The Battles That Made Us, explores a heavy question:
What happens when a Black family chases the American Dream all the way to Canada?
It’s a memoir about growing up Black and American, in Canada, in a family whose two sides are at war. If you’re keeping score, we’re Black in a country where most people are white; African-American in a Black community where most folks were Caribbean; children caught in an intra-family rivalry that pivoted on social class. All of those details are ground zero for some epic fights, and this memoir, which follows my family’s trajectory from Chicago to Toronto and back, is my attempt to find clarity in all that conflict.
Ready to buy it now?
Good.
So here’s where you can pick it up:
If you’re in the U.S., you can find it at Call & Response Books, in Hyde Park, on the South Side of Chicago. They’re the first U.S. retailer to stock my book for in-person shopping, and an absolute perfect fit for this book — Black-owned, independent, and rooted in the community. Chicagoans can find it in-store, and if you’re anywhere else in the U.S. you can order it online and they’ll ship it to you.
Otherwise, U.S. readers who want to buy My Fighting Family from and indie can check Biblio.com and find shop that works best for them.
Canadians looking to patronize and Indie can try A Different Booklist, a Black-owned shop that’s been good to me over the years, or Another Story, which handled sales at my book launch last winter. You can also try Blue Heron Books in Uxbridge. They handled booksales at BlackLit Durham, where I headlined the launch of the 2024-2025 season, and might still have some signed copies.
And, of course, it’s available at all the usual online shopping suspects… Barnes & Noble in the US, Indigo in Canada — they have it in-store too — and Amazon on both sides of the border.
If you have any questions, email me (MorganCampbellWrites@Gmailcom) and I’ll do my best to find the answers.
Until then, happy shopping
